"You'll just have to decide
what kind of man you'll want to grow up to be, Clark, because
whoever that man is,
good character or bad, he's... he's gonna
change the world." –
Jonathan Kent
Why watch this?
Cavill is superb as Kal-El: strong, heroic, but more important:
vulnerable.
Plot Summary:
As Krypton faces its destruction, Jor-El sends his infant son,
Kal-El, to Earth for a better future. Raised as Clark Kent, he
struggles with his extraordinary powers and a sense of
alienation, grappling with the question of his purpose in the
world. His journey of self-discovery becomes a race against time
when General Zod, a Kryptonian military leader, arrives on Earth
with a plan to transform it into New Krypton at the expense of
humanity, forcing Clark to embrace his destiny as Superman.
Dad's Preview:
Director Zach Snyder was given the reins to Warner Brothers/DC
Comics new direction. He certainly presents a different take on
Superman's origin. At first, I resisted - mostly because I am such a fan of
the earlier, Christopher Reeve Superman films. This
film's version of Clark Kent is very
unsure of himself and his purpose. He's leery to trust humans,
which makes sense, just based on how Earthlings fear anyone
different. But rest assured, when it is time to shine, he does. As a stand-alone film, this Superman deserves
applause, and a lot has to do with Cavill's performance as our
hero. He immediately won me over.
