"There's lots of Mikes dying right now. And a lot more Mikes will die. Until we wipe out a system that puts daggers in the hands of five-year-old children." - Capt. Cassidy

Why watch this? It's a good film about the role of American submarines in World War II.

Plot Summary: During World War II, the U.S. submarine Copperfin, under secret orders, embarks on a hazardous mission to infiltrate Tokyo Bay. Once inside enemy waters, a special team is deployed ashore to gather critical weather information needed for the upcoming Doolittle air raid. The crew must then navigate internal crises, including an emergency appendectomy, and face intense enemy threats to escape the bay and ensure the vital intelligence is delivered.

Dad's Preview: War films of this time were certainly a form of pro-American propaganda. Hell, we were still at war! The home front should support our boys in arms as they alone on the greatest threats to peace in the world at that time. This story, from the viewpoint of men on a submarine, was surprisingly well done and exciting, especially the underwater sequences where the U.S. submarine slinks into Tokyo Bay under Japanese ships returning from sea. Cary Grant is admirable as the ship's stern and fair leader.
