"We had such
potential. Such promise. But we squandered our gifts, our
intelligence. Our blind pursuit of technology only sped us
quicker to our doom. Our world is ending. But life must go on." -

Why watch this?
It's visually stunning and very well done.
Plot Summary:
In a desolate, post-apocalyptic wasteland where humanity has
been entirely wiped out by a machine uprising, a newly awakened
burlap rag doll, named 9, discovers a small community of similar
living creations hiding in fear. Unlike the group's dogmatic,
cautious leader, the newcomer convince their small band that
they must band together and go on the offensive to uncover why
fearsome mechanical beasts are relentlessly hunting them. As
they venture deeper into the dangerous ruins, the fragile
stitch-punks must unlock the secrets of their own creation to
meet the mechanical threat.

Dad's Preview: Though
brilliantly animated, this post-apocalyptic, sci-fi film
is not for children. In fact, there are some really
scary moments as spider-like machines mercilessly hunt
and suck the souls out of the film's protagonists. It
is a good exploration of several sci-fi questions:
Will machines take over and destroy their creators? Will
life go on after man is extinct? What does it even mean
to be alive or human? You'll hear familiar voices here
as a band of burlap dolls battle against The Beast, the
last remaining mecha-monster. The characters are
surprisingly well-developed, courageous and should serve
to remind us that life in whatever form, is not
machinery... and it's worth fighting for. |
